⚠️CAUTION: Junior Archaeologists At Work!⚠️

In April, two EP2 students made a surprising discovery on the playground—what appeared to be a very old belt buckle! After some investigating, we determined it was probably from a WWI-era Austro-Hungarian army uniform. Not satisfied with “probablies”, the primary 1 and 2 students then headed off to the National Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia! There we met with two experts, Dr. Marko Štepec, head curator, and Marko Linčina, an expert on military paraphernalia, who confirmed our finding—Austro-Hungarian army, c.1888! They then showed us a shiny new replica, a complete belt and buckle, and a picture of an army uniform from that period, which really helped us imagine what it would have looked like!

Since we were unable to track down the owner of the buckle, we donated it to the museum’s collection. We are so proud that we could contribute and help other people understand local history!
