Kindness Will Give You Wings – Always Say Please and Thank You
Kindness Will Give You Wings – Always Say Please and Thank You
From 6 to 10 October, the European School of Ljubljana celebrated Children’s Week under the motto “Kindness will give you wings – always say please and thank you.” In the spirit of the LifeComp project, the week was dedicated to acts of kindness, respect, and connection.
The celebration began on Monday with a special assembly in the sports hall, bringing together all primary pupils and teachers. To set the tone, the teachers performed the song Respect, a tribute to understanding and valuing one another. Afterwards, pupils worked in groups to creatively – and without words – show the power of kind words and actions.
Throughout the week, each class took part in the Chain of Kindness activity. Pupils carried out and recorded good deeds, with every kind gesture adding a new link to the class chain, which grew longer each day. In language lessons, pupils explored words of kindness in different languages and wrote them on colourful slips of paper that later decorated the school corridors.
The week concluded on Friday during morning break, when everyone gathered once more. Each class brought its own Chain of Kindness, and together we joined them into one large chain – a symbol of unity, friendship, and togetherness. We ended the celebration with a joyful sing-along of Respect and a shared feeling that kindness truly gives us wings – to lift ourselves and those around us.
