Lecture and Workshop on the Inuit
Lecture and Workshop on the Inuit
On Monday, 29 September 2025, class P5S received a wonderful surprise. To celebrate her son Jakob’s birthday, his mother, Mrs Andreja Rustja Moškotevc, treated the pupils to a fascinating lecture and hands-on workshop about Inuit life.
The pupils listened with great interest, watched an engaging slideshow, tried on real Inuit clothing, and even sampled traditional Inuit bread.
After the workshop, they reflected on what surprised and impressed them most about the Inuit:
- They live in the far north.
- Teachers carefully record attendance, as children are paid for every hour they spend in school.
- In the past, they were nomads who moved from place to place. Today, most families live in houses and move only occasionally—usually when they go hunting.
- When they kill an animal for food, they apologise to it.
- Since fruit and vegetables don’t grow there, they eat herbivores, as well as lichens and mosses found in the animals’ stomachs.
- They eat raw meat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
- They wash their hair once or twice a year using urine.
- To bathe, they undress outdoors and rub their bodies with snow.
Through this experience, the pupils discovered how diverse people’s ways of living and traditions can be—and that every culture has something unique and valuable to teach us.
A heartfelt thank-you to Mrs Andreja Rustja Moškotevc for her wonderful gift, inspiring presentation, and unforgettable experience!
