A Note from our Head Teacher

Dear students and parents,

Independence and Unity Day is an important holiday for Slovenia and Slovenians, as it commemorates the day when the majority of Slovenians decided that they wanted to live as an independent country. On 26th December, Slovenia became an independent country, creating a national feeling of a real homeland for Slovenes in Slovenia and abroad.

However, Slovenia is not the only homeland in the European School Ljubljana, there are many homelands. They are all equally important; they are all dear to us. Mine, yours, his and hers. One of the important characteristics of a homeland is language. The European School is home to many different languages, all of them equally important.

Nevertheless, the most important thing is to find a common language, and at the European School Ljubljana, we have a common language. It is not Slovenian, English, French, German, Greek or Lithuanian. It is a language of mutual respect, of cooperation, of curiosity, of questions and answers.

I am happy to celebrate our Independence and Unity Day at the European School Ljubljana, which reminds and teaches itself again and again that it is the European Union that ensures that all nations and member states are free to celebrate their independence days.

I wish you a pleasant celebration of Slovenian Independence and Unity Day, a warm and peaceful Christmas and a happy and optimistic leap into 2022.
