P5 Camp at CŠOD Rak

Rain and wintery weather didn’t deter P5 from having an outstanding five-day school in nature trip in mid-May. CŠOD Rak provided the perfect setting for the English and Slovene sections to enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings of Rakov Škocjan. Activities included hiking, exploring caves & WW1 tunnels, canoeing, fire lighting with flint, rock climbing, building shelters and archery. Students also cooked their own dinner and were enthralled seeing forest animals on the motion-detector camera they planted in the forest at the start of the week. The final night was special, gathering by a large camp fire, roasting sausages & marshmallows, and listening to Mr Breen’s tale of the ‘doom-doom’ sticks and Mr Bishop’s history lesson about the ‘friendly’ witches of the forest. Besides all the fun, students overcame many challenges and bonded together in a way not possible inside a normal classroom.
