Pomoč ljudem v stiski

Dear ESLJ Families,

All of you must have heard of the disastrous war in Ukraine. As you read this email, Ukrainians are fighting for their independence and are repelling attacks by the Russian troops. The consequences of the war on civilians are devastating. Over half a million people - women, children and the elderly have fled Ukraine, crossing the borders to neighbouring countries to the west, such as Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Moldova.

Together with the ESLJ teachers, the school families can support the people forced to flee their homes and country. A huge Thank You to Ms Christine Kveder (the teacher of German) for starting the initiative among teachers and collecting donations at the School Center.

The ESLJ families who wish to participate in the initiative can bring their donations to the collection points at:

- Podjetje Duol: Kamnik pod Krimom 142, 1352 Preserje (every working day between 08:00 - 16:00);

- BTC Perutnina Ptuj: Letališka cesta 32a (between 8:00 - 19:00)

The following things are in high demand now:

-warm blankets, pillows

-sleeping bags

-hygiene items

-warm clothes, socks (for children, women, men)

-baby food

-diapers

-electric generators

-electric torches

-rechargeable batteries,

-first aid kits

Volunteers at the collection points will sort, pack, prepare necessary humanitarian aid documentation and organise the transportation of all donations to the Ukrainian-Polish border.

There are several reliable charity organisations collecting financial donations to support the people of Ukraine.

https://www.rks.si/sl/Novice/pomoc-prebivalcem-Ukrajine/ - Red Cross Slovenia works directly with Red Cross Ukraine, which offers support and protection to civilians in Ukraine. At the moment, they are primarily focusing on providing drinking water, which has been severely limited in many areas.

https://www.karitas.si/slovenska-karitas-zacenja-z-akcijo-zbiranja-sredstev-za-humanitarno-pomoc-trpecim-v-ukrajini/ - Slovenian Karitas began a charity campaign to help those in need in Ukraine. They are collecting financial and material donations.

https://doniraj.unicef.si/pomoc/ukrajina/ - Unicef Slovenia is collecting donations for providing drinking water, medical supplies and help to Ukrainian children and families.

Thank you very much for all your support and help!
