River trip to inspire creative writing

Last Wednesday students in the P5 English section were fortunate to go on a class trip to the Ljubljanica river as part of a cross curriculum project for English and Discovery of the World. The trip was to observe the river and surrounding animals in their natural habitat and to gain a better understanding of the activities of nature in the morning. Once observing the animal and making notes on their behaviour, students had to create back stories for their chosen animals. Look at a star piece below…

I waited until everything was silent. Finally, I came out into the boiling sun. The children screamed as I came towards them especially the small girl with curly brown hair. I waddled out of the water and smelled a child’s cheesy smelly sock. A girl screamed and my head exploded. Suddenly a ship came and I jumped into the waves like a lion jumping on its prey.

All the children gathered around me and tried to feed me but I was so shy but after a moment I ate the boring grass. I went back into the water and the children made notes about me, like I was the centre of the universe. I was very itchy so I scratched myself and all the children giggled. Suddenly the children went away and I sadly swam away.
