Why is the Grass Green?

For Wonder Wednesday, P2E wanted to know: Why is the grass green? To find out the answer to that, we collected many samples of grass and leaves from our neighbourhood. We learned that grass (and green leaves) contain a bright pigment called chlorophyll, and how chlorophyll reflects green light but absorbs the other colours in sunlight. Then we made our own "paints" using chlorophyll, as well as the pigments in raspberries and blueberries. And now we understand why our parents get upset when we get grass stains on our knees!
