As part of our natural disaster unit, students looked at many different natural disasters but all of them agreed that volcanoes are the coolest. This may or may not have been down to them being able to replicate a volcano and conduct a scientific experiment in how to create the biggest and longest explosions with varying amounts of baking soda and vinegar. Students made a variety of different sized volcanoes, and each volcano had a different amount of vinegar and baking soda poured into it. P5E concluded the taller the volcano the longer the eruption lasts - sometimes for even over 10 minutes when using over 50g of making soda with 150ml of vinegar. The smaller the volcano the quicker it explodes, only lasts 1-2 minutes and of course creates more mess.
