P5 and S1 School in Nature: Learning, Adventure and Fun!
P5 and S1 School in Nature: Learning, Adventure and Fun!
From 5 to 7 October, our P5 and S1 pupils enjoyed three exciting days at CŠOD Štrk, where they took part in a wide range of outdoor activities, cultural experiences and opportunities to build friendships.
One of the highlights was a Kurent workshop, during which pupils discovered the fascinating history of Pust (Slovenian Carnival) and the traditional Kurent costume associated with the Ptuj region. They even had the chance to try on a Kurent mask and the heavy cowbells, quickly discovering just how much energy it takes to make those bells ring!

Another memorable experience was rowing Chinese dragon boats on Lake Ptuj. Battling strong headwinds and navigating around the lake's many swans made the adventure even more exciting! The pupils rose to the challenge and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
They also tried their hand at climbing and archery, while a culinary workshop gave them the opportunity to prepare traditional bread with pork cracklings, flavoured with garlic and onion, as well as a delicious cream cheese spread.
There was plenty more to enjoy, including an evening walk with torches and a visit to Lake Ptuj on the final day. On their last evening, the pupils organised their very own talent show, with everyone taking part and sharing their talents and creativity. The evening ended with a lively disco, where pupils danced, laughed and enjoyed spending time together.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the trip was the opportunity for pupils from the English and Slovene language sections, as well as different year groups, to get to know one another better. Sharing rooms, taking part in activities and spending their free time together helped them form new friendships and strengthen existing ones.
There was also plenty of time for free play, with football, volleyball and basketball courts, along with a variety of sports equipment, available for everyone to enjoy.
Of course, School in Nature was not just about having fun! Pupils also learnt valuable lessons in independence, teamwork and responsibility. They were responsible for keeping their rooms tidy, helping to prepare meals and cleaning up afterwards. They took on these duties without complaint, although a few occasionally needed a friendly reminder when they became distracted by all the excitement!

It was a wonderful three days filled with new experiences, laughter, friendship and learning beyond the classroom. Our P5 and S1 pupils returned home with happy memories, stronger friendships and a greater sense of independence and responsibility.
