World Food Day at the European School of Ljubljan
World Food Day
On Thursday, 16 October 2025, we celebrated World Food Day at the European School of Ljubljana. The day highlighted the importance of sharing food fairly and reducing hunger around the world.
Students explored how our food choices can help create a better future for the planet, focusing on eating more locally sourced and seasonal foods. To better understand this idea, they read a story about an apple and a banana and compared the journeys each fruit took from harvest to store.

They then expressed their ideas creatively by illustrating the story and writing their own versions about other foods and their journeys.
Meanwhile, our school kitchen team prepared a special lunch featuring traditional dishes from nearby European countries and seasonal fruit from local orchards. Teachers also encouraged pupils to reduce food waste and avoid unnecessary plastic packaging in their lunchboxes.
